10 April 2012 – The five large emerging economies Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are in favour of global sustainable development. This was the tenet of a declaration issued at the end of March by the heads of state of these BRICS nations, in which they describe sustainability as the key to future growth. They also declare the UN Conference on global sustainability to be held in Rio de Janeiro in June to be our ‘only chance’.
