13 June 2012 – A final round of negotiations takes place from 13 to 15 June in Rio in preparation for the UN Sustainability Conference in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). In order for the heads of state and government to be able to adopt the result of the conference, the concluding text must be negotiated and agreed on as far as possible. A delegation from Switzerland led by Ambassador Franz Perrez, Head of the International Affairs Division at the Federal Office for the Environment FOEN, is participating in the talks.
Switzerland has identified the following four main topics as its priorities: the green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; the strengthening of international environmental governance; the establishment of a council for sustainable development; and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Details on the Swiss position can be found here.
