Education and awareness-raising is very important for the promotion of values that promote sustainability and, hence, for the fulfilment of the three dimensions of sustainable development. The goal of education for sustainable development (ESD) is to give individuals the skills and capacities that will enable them to contribute actively and in person to the shaping of the future. The United Nations declared 2005-2014 the “UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development” and commissioned UNESCO with the implementation of the project.
In Switzerland, the portrait «education for the future» supports ESD. They are present in all of the linguistic regions and promote schooling that teaches children to act responsibly in global society.
